Tentative Title: Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas gridded monthly dataset

Overview: This catalogue entry provides gridded data from observations (E-OBS), reanalyses (ERA5, ERA5-Land and ORAS5) and global (CMIP5 and CMIP6) and regional (CORDEX) climate projections for the set of 30 variables and indices included in this first version of the Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas. This dataset complements and evolves the Gridded monthly climate projection dataset underpinning the IPCC AR6 Interactive Atlas building on (reproducible from) the datasets provided in the CDS catalogues and including new variables and indices describing various types of climatic impact-drivers: heat and cold, wet and dry, snow and ice, wind and radiation, ocean, and circulation characteristics of the climate system.

This dataset includes gridded information with monthly/annual temporal resolution for observations/reanalyses of the recent past and climate projections based on Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) / Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP) scenarios for the 30 variables and indices computed from daily/monthly data (as necessary) across the different datasets. The ensemble (and some single-model) datasets are harmonised using regular grids with horizontal resolutions of 2° (CMIP5), 1° (CMIP6), 0.5° (ORAS5), 0.25° (CORDEX-CORE), and 0.125º (CORDEX-EUR, E-OBS); others (ERA5, ERA5-Land) are preserved in their original grids to avoid interpolation artefacts. Note that the harmonized CORDEX datasets building on the CDS CORDEX catalogue (with a 0.5º resolution) for the individual domains (with the exception of Europe) were already included in the Gridded monthly climate projection dataset underpinning the IPCC AR6 Interactive Atlas.

This dataset allows the reproduction, expansion and customisation of the climate change products provided interactively by the Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas, an interactive web application displaying global/continental maps of observed trends and climate changes for future periods across scenarios or for global warming levels, and regionally-aggregated time series, seasonal cycle plots and climate stripes.

Related datasets, also available through the CDS, include the E-OBS, ERA5, ERA5-Land and ORAS5 datasets and the CMIP5/6 global climate projections and the CORDEX regional climate projections.

The Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas (http)

The Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas is a web application providing graphical information about recent past trends and future changes (for different scenarios and global warming levels) across the different C3S datasets and variables/indices included in the "Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas gridded monthly dataset".

THIS WILL BE ACTIVATED ONCE THE VIEWER WILL BE DEPLOYED!

Description of the datasets and variables used in the Copernicus Interactive Climate Atlas gridded monthly dataset (http)

Describes the underlying datasets (observations, reanalyses and projections) and variables/indices included in the first version of the dataset. It also describes methodological aspects, such as harmonization and regridding, bias adjustment, and quality check.
