The aim of this page is to gather information which will help us to establish the data format and the file name convention for the data exchange in the context of the activities of the WMO Lead Centre for Wave Forecast Verification.
If you are participating in this project, please update your own page in the column "details from data provider" in the last table below.
We are currently inviting the institutes that are participating in the current Wave Forecast Verification Project that Jean Bidlot has maintained for JCOMM, but other Centres are welcome to join the project.
Parameter Name | units | |
---|---|---|
Atmospheric forcing: | 10m U wind speed 10-meter neutral wind speed over wave = 40 | m/s |
10m V wind speed | m/s | |
Wave Fields: | Significant height of wind waves
( Significant height of combined wind waves and swell = 3 ) | m |
Peak period Peak wave peridod | s | |
Mean wave period based on the second moment of the frequency spectrum | s | |
Mean wave direction | degree true |
The matching between forecast and observation will be based on a nearest grid point approach.
No match-up will be performed if any of the surrounding grid points are missing in order to minimise land contamination effects.
Contributors are invited to update their own page in the column "details from data provider".
If there is a need to change the main page please send a request enrico.fucile@ecmwf.int as concurrent editing is sometimes giving unexpected results.
