ECMWF implemented a new upgrade of the CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) global real-time data assimilation and forecasting system on Tuesday 27 June 2023.

The CAMS Global atmospheric composition forecast data documentation has been updated accordingly.
In terms of technical changes, there is an important change to the GRIB encoding. This is the introduction of the Golomb-Rice coding compression method, as defined in the CCSDS recommended standard and implemented by the Adaptive Entropy Coding Library (AEC), as the default packing type for all gridded model output in GRIB 2 format.
