Icons that should represent data or plots appear as Notes or Binary icons.
Metview scans its open folders for new files. If a large file is being copied or generated, it can be the case that it has been created but has no data in it yet at the point when Metview scans it and determines its type. This can result in Metview mis-classifying it as Notes (plan ASCII text) or Binary.
Right-click on the icon and select "Recheck icon type" once the file has finished being generated.
